Amid Trump Criticism, Project 2025 Director Steps Down

Paul Dans oversaw the controversial project

Paul Dans, the director of Project 2025, an extreme right-wing policy blueprint and personnel project prepared for the next Republican president, which became a political cudgel used by Democrats, is departing after the effort drew criticism from former president Donald Trump.

For months, Trump has tried to distance himself from the project, which has been a collaborative effort across the conservative ecosystem led by the Heritage Foundation. Vice President Kamala Harris brings up Project 2025 during almost every campaign stop.

"Can you believe they put that thing in writing?" she said at fundraiser over the weekend. She will be hosting a rally in Atlanta on Tuesday evening — and she is said to be planning a busy schedule next week that includes stops with a running mate, meaning she will soon make it known who that will be.
