One author shares how drive can help workers avoid burnout

People assume that drive depletes energy. They believe that level of intensity, focus and daily effort leads to burnout.

What is burnout, really? Burnout is a state of chronic physical and emotional exhaustion caused by prolonged stress and demanding or draining activities. Your flame has been burning too hot for too long. Burnout is typically accompanied by feelings of cynicism, detachment and a reduced sense of accomplishment. Sounds like a fast track to complacency to me.

Burnout has recently been defined as "a work-related state of exhaustion that occurs among employees, which is characterized by extreme tiredness, reduced ability to regulate cognitive and emotional processes, and mental distancing."
