The U.S. National Park System Receives a $100 Million Grant

This is the park system's largest-ever grant

On Monday, the National Park Foundation announced it had received the largest grant in its nearly 60-year history, a $100 million gift from Lilly Endowment Inc.

The foundation, which is the fundraising arm of the National Park Service, said the money would help pay for programs to enhance the park system, which includes more than 400 sites nationwide.

"For over 50 years, private philanthropy has played a vital role in bridging the gap between park needs and available funding," said Will Shafroth, president and CEO of the National Park Foundation, in a statement.
