Back in 1968, NASA commissioned general systems scientist George Land to evaluate the creative potential of school children. He and program architect Beth Jarman administered a specially designed examination to 1,600 five-year-olds. The results were illuminating... and terrifying.
Ninety-eight percent of the subjects performed at a genius-level for imaginative and innovative thinking ability. However, when the same children were tested five years later, only 30 percent of the 10-year-olds demonstrated genius. By age 15, the number had fallen to 12 percent.
And there's no indication that anything has improved since then. Among adults, a mere 2 percent demonstrate creative genius. Clearly, something has gone terribly wrong in our education system.
