RECAP: 24th Annual Legislative Reception held at the Ohio Statehouse Rotunda
Good public policy is directly and positively impacted through educating our Ohio General Assembly members.
It is with this in mind, that over 70 OAIMA members and guests and over 50 Ohio House and Senate Members were in attendance for the 24th Annual OAIMA Legislative Reception at the Ohio Statehouse Rotunda on Wednesday, February 12th.
The turnout was tremendous, and our members engaged in meaningful conversations with Ohio lawmakers about the importance of the aggregates and industrial minerals industry in Ohio.
Many connections were made and friendships developed during this yearly event. Ohio’s new Generals Assembly includes many freshman members, many of which do not know about our industry. This event allowed our members to educate these lawmakers about the important role we play in building and maintaining Ohio’s roads, bridges and infrastructure.
Topics included aggregate resource availability, workforce needs, permitting, health and safety as well as the need for indexed highway funding. The Ohio Geological survey once again hosted a table full of information about the aggregates and industrial minerals industry. In addition to legislators and legislative staff, we were honored to be joined by ODNR Director Mary Mertz as well and MRM Chief Benny McCament among many other agency staff.
A highlight of the event was the ability for lawmakers to sign up to tour one of our members facilities. We will be working with our membership to schedule these tours soon. Additionally, an underground mine model (see photos) produced by Univ. of Kentucky mining engineering students was a huge topic of conversation.
Once again, we wish to thank our Annual Sponsors and Event sponsors and all OAIMA members who helped make this event a tremendous success.
